Cage Diving - South Africa - Sharktraveler
Hard Cage Diving (Great White Shark cage diving)
Hard cages, in other words steel cages are used for diving with Great White Sharks. This is the only option to dive with great white sharks in South Africa. Due to the nature of the industry the Government has put some regulations in place to dive with Great White Sharks.
This is done to protect both sharks and people from incidents and bad media coverage. Diving outside the cage with these animals is not allowed unless you get a special permit from Marine and Coastal management of South Africa.

The steel cage is secured on the side of the boat and divers are at all times within arms length of a crew member to help and assist them with their needs.
Dives like these doesn’t require that you get into the water to see and experience the animals. You can expect plenty of interaction from the animals that comes up to the surface.
By offering people dives with Great Whites we can change their perception around these animals.
Soft Cage Diving (Blacktips, Spinner and Dusky Sharks)
Soft Cage Diving is designed for the individuals that are not qualified scuba divers or that are not allowed to dive due to medical reasons.
With soft cage diving you do not need any special qualifications to experience these magnificent animals that the East coast of South Africa has to offer. Children as young as 8 years old to can join in on the fun and learn about the animals that keeps a balance in our worlds oceans.
A typical "soft" shark cage dive involves getting into a wetsuit, with a mask and snorkel and climbing into a floating soft cage with between 5 and 30 sharks gliding gracefully by, the cage walls. Due to the fact that there are many Blacktip sharks and Tiger Sharks around the reefs in Kwa-zulu Natal, you are indeed guaranteed an experience of a lifetime.

Many shark species are being pushed towards extinction through the Natal Sharks Board’s Shark Nets and destructive fishing methods. The sheer lack of compassion, understanding and basic awareness people have of these animals is enabling the slaughter of millions of sharks each year to continue unabated.

Through Soft Cage Diving we hope to change the perspective of people that fear these animals. Many people who feared these animals have left in a new light with experience and knowledge and they continue to spread the word for sharks.
