Tiger Sharks Diving - South Africa - Sharktraveler
South Africa is one of only three countries in the world offering to dive with Tiger Sharks. Baiting techniques that resemble the shark's natural feeding habit are used to lure the sharks in. This allows divers as well as snorkelers and non-divers to share the experience.
A briefing will be held in the morning at the crew house explaining the trip and the Tiger Shark Dive. The boat then leaves with four to eight divers, drops a chum bucket (bait) in the water at about 6m/18ft depth and wait for the Tiger Sharks to pick up the scent from the chum slick. It can take up to 45 minutes for a Tiger Shark to arrive. During this time the chum bucket will be checked regularly to see if any sharks are in the area. The trip duration is 4 - 5 hours depending on conditions and shark activity.

As soon as the tiger sharks are sighted and circling the bucket, the divers may enter the water quietly and swim slowly towards the chum bucket. Divers and the bucket will be drifting with the current while the Tiger Sharks swim around and right in between the divers.
